Bruneau Sand Dunes is located south of Mountain Home Idaho along the Snake River. At one time the sand dunes were mobile moving to the winds. When the CJ Strike Dam was installed on the Snake River the area water table was raised bringing a small lake to the area and allowing deep-rooted plants to take hold along the base of the dunes. Their days of moving ended. The wind still reshape them but they are no longer free to roam. The sand dunes are some of the tallest in the lower 48.
