Painted Hills Unit – John Day Fossil Beds National Monument

The Painted Hill Unit is the most often photographed of the three units. This is probably because of their beautiful colors. These colors are indicative of past climates, red being wet, yellow and tan dryer. There are black smudges in the layers that are indicative of plants that fixed magnesium in the soil. I’m using the panoramic shots to present the vistas that can be seen along the more easily walked trails. Ansaldo49
